Leave
I breathed in hard
And you witness me fall
For the first time.
You asked me why
I fell so hard on the ground
Every once in a while
And I told you the truth.
Each person takes that step
Out the door
Leaving me alone
On the floor.
Every one.
You asked me
The one important question,
"Do you think
That I'll leave too?"
And I told you
"I know you will."
But no, you're the worst.
You never leave
Because you never stayed.
My heart lingers at my fingertips
For you.
And you don't take it.
My breath catches
For you,
And you won't return it.
So distant.
I feel your warmth
From across the room.
You never leave
Because you never stay.
I long for your eyes
To stay on me
For your hand
To reach for mine.
But you glance everywhere
And loosely feel my fingers
Grasping for yours.
And my heart falls
Waiting for you on the ground
Patiently.
But you can't
You won't
Because you're not here.
