Daddy's Womb MAG

April 23, 2008
By Anonymous

i asked my father if i could swim,
and he said that i would drown.
The Sea would imprison me – he said
if my feet had left the ground.

So i walked out to the water,
and cried out – how ’bout now!
He said, a little bit further, Son,
and then you’ll leave the ground.

i stepped on sand then stone,
from hollow ground to sturdy.
The sky was at my level as I
gazed at the birdie.

The Sea brought me a new idea,
the urge to flee to the high.

i asked my Father if i could fly,
and he said, sure, Son – go try.

i jumped as high as i could.
Still, i landed on the ground.
i saw my Father pull on a chain,
then i knew that i was bound.

I really loved this. The ending  pulled it together beautifully and made it highly relatable. I commend you for taking the reader into  this nice fantasy & then bringing it back down to earth. Excellent :)

It's what you take out of the poem. That is how you understand it.

I dig that it totally encompasses "parents expect us to act like adult and treat us like children."

You know what, I changed my mind! No rhyming problems whatsoever on my second read through. Keep up the good work!

...Don't know why I thought some of it felt forced...oh well.

Very nice. A few of the lines felt just a little forced, rhythm-wise, but it was one of the best I've read.

Hey, can anyone tell me how long the wait usually is before your work is published on the site?
