"Yet if hope has flown away, In a night or in a day, In a vision or in none, Is it therefore the less gone? All we see or seem, Is but a dream within a dream. . ." ~Edgar Allan Poe.

A thousand paper memories
You hold them in your hand
A thousand days to be with you
As our time slips by like sand

The hands are flying ‘round the clock

There’s no simple road to take
My love for you comes in flocks
And our own path we make

The wind sings a song between the trees
And I’ll sing mine to you
Gliding and drifting with the breeze
As you do the things you do

I wonder how a storm could rage
Behind those gentle eyes
You’ve got brilliance past your age
And you taught me to be wise

I think of how you never fall
And hold me there with you
I know you always give your all
To show me how to too

I wish our days would never end
But I know that time won’t slow
Though I feel more than a friend
I’ll never let you know

A thousand paper memories
They fly around my head
A thousand choices you could make
But you choose me instead

I try to live the here and now
But I know what your future brings
I’ll never have to think how
For you I’d do anything

I see the light shine in your heart
And I know the love you show
With you there is a certain art
I might never let you go

My reason for loving you
Is so simple on its own
It’s just the fact you are you
And I can’t leave you alone

I think of how you never fall
And hold me there with you
I know you always give your all
To show me how to too

I wish our days would never end
But I know that time won’t slow
Though I feel more than a friend
I’ll never let you know

A thousand paper memories
You hold them in your hand
A thousand days to be with you
As our time slips by like sand

I'll never stop loving you
You'll live on in my heart
Even when circumstance
Pulls us worlds apart

A thousand paper memories
They fly around my head
A thousand choices you could make
Yet you choose me instead

This song is about the fragility of a memory, once the one who made that memory with you is gone. It's about choices, between want and need. I think it's a love song, but also a song about loss.
