Going Forward, Looking Back
He came out on rainy days
When a storm bellowed and brewed,
And together we made that cacophony,
Of when we played so eagerly.
To us the world made little sense back then,
Sheathing secrets throughout its den,
As we ambled in search of seam
With plenty of bruises in between.
What sadness we felt or what tears we shed
Were kissed by mom and dried by man
Who made sure we fit photos with a smile,
And treated us like we were, worthwhile.
Those days of merriment are behind me though,
What boyish spirit has lost its glow,
It’s like we took a nap ‘till noon,
But I awoke much too soon.
Two hapless boys who grew up swell
Arm in arm, hearts tangled,
Split apart by an unjust end,
Like two currents upon a bend.
Rings of a doorbell pest at my side,
“Responsibility!” I say, “I abide!”
Does Fortune scowl when I hast
A forgotten friend, of the past?
But once I took a chance
And called a name on whim,
And by glory did I see,
A pair of impish eyes: staring into me!
