New Best Friend
The clink of glasses fills the air
as you move uncomfortably from chair to chair
Searching, but not finding.
The people at which you peek,
are not the ones you seek.
Looking, but not seeing.
The dark cloud of doubt grows,
and frustration shows.
Hopeful, but growing dim.
Then your eyes meet a cover,
and it’s like you’ve met your new lover,
and the light begins to grow again.
You walk among the books,
Scoping out the little nooks.
Smiling from ear to ear.
You’ve found the one,
you’re almost done.
Nervous, but excited.
The story you’ve found,
makes you feel crowned.
And you can’t wait
to plop down with your new best friend
and not get up till the very end.
