The Blind Eye

I sleep in a bed

There's a roof over my head.

Three meals a day,

I have money to pay.

Pain on the news,

We have things to do.

We are the privileged,

In our own minds.

We share the same stars,

Same clouds, same sky.

Yet we ignore the eye

and live our perfect lives.

Me, myself and not You,

It does not affect me, true?

False- A mark engraved in cement,

out of one hundred percent.

But I have a desk, a school,

and we laugh at the little fool

who is not handed everything he seeks.

Laughing like ravens with sharp beaks.

Flip a channel, turn the page,

Ignore the world,

in all it's rage.

The author's comments:

The current violence taking place in the world, and our privileged lives that we take for granted, was my inspiration for this poem.  Many of us see what is going on and choose to ignore it, while the people in pain on the other side dream of just a smidge of what we waste.  I hope people will understand that they can make a difference and try to make this world a better and more peaceful place.
