I am freedom.
I am whatever I want and choose to be.
I am Kerala, India and America the free.
I am the rough, uncontrollable waves of the ocean,
the grains of gold against my skin.
I am the crisp clear of dawn,
and the warm fuzz of dusk.

I am the people around me.
I am a friend, a daughter, and a carer of all,
a menace, a child, an imperfect doll.
I am my stubborn father, my strong mother, and my quiet other.
I am a unique being of my own, who’s feelings cannot be explained.
I am misunderstood, independent and defiantly brave.

I am my childhood home, in the peaceful suburbs.
I am my hushed street, alive in the summers.
I am the maple trees, so sticky with sap,
I am the abandoned swingset in the very back.
I am the rainbow driveways, the chalky hands,
I am the everyday tuna sandwiches.

I am an array of possibilities.
I am an astronaut, a teacher, world-famous singer
I am an architect, a cop, and a military leader.
I am the future of the world, with the ideas inside me.
I am filled with the hope and drive for all humanity.

I am my heart, my city, my second home
I am Manhattan, Brooklyn, Queens, Staten Island, and the Bronx
I am the big hot pans of Chicken and Rice,
I am the taxi’s, the diversity, the bright city lights.
I am the artists
I am the performers,
I am the big dreams and dangerous hopes.

This poem is all about me-no lies or masks, just the truth about who I am as a person.
