Tucked in
Light out
Stuffed animals perfectly poised
Not two minutes later
A blood curling scream.
I rush in
Expecting the worst

But see her
Sitting up in her bed
Pointing in fear
At the closet door
A monster!
A monster!
She says
Get him right now
Or we’ll all be dead!

I pull open the door
Clothes galore
Shoes and scarves askew
Look, look,
Big surprise
There is nothing
That would bring her demise
I tell her it’s fine
But she does not budge
She won’t sleep
‘Til the monster is done

I go into the closet
Shut the door
Now she won’t be scared
Anymore
But alas, not to be true
Because there are eyes
Staring back at you

I was thinking of Monster's Inc. and how the children thought there were monsters in the closet, and their parents didn't believe them...this is from the point of view of the parent of a little girl, but there is a twist at the end.
