In Ease
In the lightless part of my yard
There are bushes filled with
Red round berries, I was told not to eat.
A berry that looks so much like candy
Yet is "deadly," tempting.
My parents told me how they would poison me,
But I see the neighbors cat come over
And eat them all the time.
I was told to scare the cat away
Whenever it came into our yard,
By screaming at it like it was no good.
But I always forgot
And even now I let it.
Everyday day it would jump onto the fence
In ease like it had nothing to worry about.
Didn't have to worry about missing the ledge
Or losing its balance.
It would jump onto the fence like it was a normal routine.
Recently the cat didn't come,
Or the day after,
Or after that.
I sat by the white framed window for days,
Waiting for my friend to appear on the fragmented fence.
