Annie
Annie was once so pretty,
Once so glowing and radiant.
There was a time when she would smile and laugh,
A time when she beamed with confidence.
Annie came back to school one fall,
With a smile and a few extra pounds.
She was still so beautiful and still so buoyant,
But evidently not everyone thought so.
Annie would get teased for this small little flaw,
For moving up one slim size.
Suddenly her attributes ceased to matter at all,
And the attention was focused on her imperfections.
Annie’s disposition began to change,
And soon she didn’t smile as much.
She walked down the halls with her head hung low,
And her eyes avoiding all contact.
Annie no longer had friends to speak of.
They had all deserted her because of her weight.
After constantly being told of her unsightliness,
She soon began to believe it.
Annie thought that if she shed the weight,
Her world would return to normal,
That she would have friends to sit with at lunch,
And that she would attend parties galore.
Annie began to eat less and less,
And she soon ate nothing at all.
She dropped the pounds she gained over the summer,
And then she dropped several more.
Annie was now considered skinny,
And her friends came crawling back.
Everything was back to the way it was,
But yet somehow it wasn’t.
Annie’s body dropped its burden,
But her mental state was not restored.
She could not regain that confidence,
That she had once worn so well.
Annie no longer thought she was pretty,
But now beauty was all she wanted.
Somehow she believed that without a few more pounds,
She would finally achieve that status.
Annie was now too skinny,
And her clothes fall off of her body.
You could count the ribs on her bony chest,
And yet she still felt ugly.
Annie seemed so broken.
She seemed wrecked beyond repair.
There had not been a glimmer of hope in her eyes,
Since the first day that school year.
Annie, Annie, poor Annie!
She was now a walking skeleton.
She constantly shivered in room temperature,
And her face caved in.
Annie was never seen again,
By the people of that middle school.
How her life would have been so different,
If it weren’t for a few cruel people.
