Bruised Dreams
I once knew a girl
whose eyes were almost
as bright as her dreams
she was carefree and wild
expressive and joyous
she was innocent
and then you came along
you changed all of that
you who left bruises
not only on her arms
but on her soul as well
I had to watch
as the light slowly
left her eyes
and her dreams decayed
I had to watch
as that little girl
slowly died within herself
I had to watch
her struggle
in silence
because you
you taught her
that to express
was something punishable
