A Thousand Words
History is shown in photos for those who don’t believe
A red, white and blue flag draped across an unknown black abyss
Unfathomably far away
Out of our reaches, but within reach of the vast minority
An expression, worrisome and helpless, stricken across a woman’s face.
A stranger,
The symbol of an era without stating a word.
A coincidence on the streets of the city of lights,
an anonymous man on a normal day makes history
Destruction broadcast for the world to see
A window into the past
Understanding what we have not seen,
and never will.
A legacy
Life may be measured in time
But it is remembered with photos
Parents’ grainy memories, strangers’ stories, world’s wonders
Familiar toothy grins juxtaposed on rosy cheeks
and anonymous faces of others we will never meet
Past and present
From under the same roof and from far off lands
Photos speak a thousand words
Sometimes it just depends on who is talking
