You Promised
You promised.
You promised me that you would never touch a drop of that wicked poison again.
You promised.
You promised me that you would protect me from any type of harm that could come around me.
But you weren't there, and that man touched me like he never should have.
You promised.
You promised me that you would beat anyone who laid one abusive finger on me.
But again you were gone and I was hit. Now you're the one causing the bruises.
You promised.
You promised to hold onto me and never let go.
But you let me go without a fight.
You promised.
You promised to always love me and encourage me.
But you speak the words that replay in my head the most, and cut my heart the deepest.
You promised.
You promised to be my number one fan.
But now you're my biggest enemy.
You promised.
And I promised you that I would never give up on praying for you.
Lately it's just so hard, but I do it anyway.
Even though you can't keep your promises.
I promise you I'll keep mine!
