The Weight of Winter
Snow drifts along the sidewalk,
soft and silent.
My breath clouds the air,
and I can see
the rhythm of my own heartbeat.
The streetlights flicker
like memories I can almost reach.
Footsteps crunch on frozen ground,
but everything else is still,
paused between moments.
Windows shimmer with warmth,
rooms alive with laughter,
and I wonder
how life can feel so heavy
and fragile
all at once.
I press my hands to the cold,
and for a second
the quiet teaches me
how to breathe again.
