small trees
Small Trees
Back when a big tree grew in my front yard
I was young
And it seemed bigger
Than life itself
Now
A small tree stands in its place
The wonder of new life
It makes me think
Maybe nostalgia is what clouds the vision
Of sad and angry people
Thinking negative of what is now
Holding on to the old wonder of their childhood
I believe they need a new way to think
To see the world around them
Not to search for
The big tree from their childhood
But instead for the small tree from now
Not to long for what used to be
But instead for what will be
They worry about losing the happiness of being a child
So caught up in the grandeur of the tree that used to be
That they forget about the new tree
Forget to care for it
Give it sun and water
And they let it fade away
I don’t like to get caught up in the big trees
I think its just as interesting
What the small trees will become
