The Life I Live
I pledge allegiance to your flag
One nation under God
Indivisible with liberty and justice for some
I live a life where police sirens has become the new lullaby
“ hands up, don’t shoot” is apart of our every day language
Going out praying I make it back in
Traveling my city I see 50 shades of red
Death has now become a fashionable statement
Jackson is no longer known as Jackson but where “ Sav got killed “
the light poles are now used to withhold the gifts of bears and balloons
Yea I know who pulled that trigger back letting 40 loose
But i know I’ll be labeled as a snitch so I’ll rather not tell
I live in a city where revenge is wanted more than justice will
So let me put on my black ski mask and hoodie to match
Even though that’s why Treyvon Martin got killed
We’re like a lottery to the system lucky 7 they got us bodying a lot of our own people
We only fly because we just died
Now A nurse has to be the one to tell a mother that her son had just died
Scared to have a son because he’s just going to be another duplicate of a target
You didn’t die like a ghee you trembled
this is what you wanted to avoid the label Of a snitch ?
Our mothers didn’t raise us to be murders and they sholl didn’t raise us to be murdered
Always told to be men but how could we ever be a man when society has only given us one tool
click clack
“ take him to the hospital it’s too much blood to take him home “ is starting to sound like a number one hip hop song

Growing up I’ve lived on the west side of Chicago my whole life. The city I grew up in is known as one of the most dangerous cities. Although it’s sad to say, I’ve seen many deaths occur and listened to shoot out on so many lonely nights. Sometimes people from my race feel as if they don’t have a voice in this country or it doesn’t matter . Growing up as the shy girl in a rough neighborhood I decided to become the voice my city needs .
