Where I'm From
I’m from bloody knees and elbows,
From a hundred summer days spent outside each year,
Finding every nook and cranny in the neighborhood,
In which my brother and I could stir trouble
I’m from hustles and bustles,
I became a man by the age of ten,
Earning scars from boyish endeavors,
That I bear on my flesh to this very day
I’m from Nanny’s and Papaw’s,
Where I always had a home,
Because they always had my heart,
No matter how clouded my head was
I’m from the Chapel,
Family without shared blood,
United by shared struggles and love,
That have my back to this very day
I’m from hard times but good times,
From a place where life is what you make of it,
From where when it rains it pours,
But when the clouds part the sun shines the brightest where I’m from
