Congratulations America

You have undergone a huge transformation

From a nation built on safety and solace

To one based on hatred and malice

How can we claim to be the leader for the world

When ours refuses to lead

And so we cannot succeed

Because still in the 21st century

Racism and sexism and bigotry

Are still intertwined into society

How are we still living

Without giving any attention

To those that aren’t mentioned

The ones whose stories are cut off by the sound

Of a thousand rifles firing all at once

The ones that are shoved into camps

Before they can begin living

Those that are shunned from the very land

Their ancestors cultivated

The families ripped apart in pursuit

Of the golden land of opportunity

The ones that are strangers to an identity of immigrants

Those that speak their truth but are deafened by

Defenders of a constant patriarchy

America

When will we regress back

To our previous progress?

When will we start to put social responsibility

Over political favorability?

America

When will we think again?

When can we love again?
