Author's note:

It's the first in a book series of four, however I've been a writer since first grade.

Dear, Sam,

Change is normal. It is apart of everyday life. I know you miss dad, but in the end, life moves on.

Love, your brother, Luke.

Luke wished he could write letters during a class. If he could...he would write exactly that. Sam was Luke’s brother. Unfortunately, their father passed...but that was a whole year ago! Yet, Sam still sat there, in his blue jeans and Star Wars shirt, his hands covering his eyes, as if his long hair weren’t covering it already. Luke could tell Sam was emotional about their father’s passing. He stared at Sam for a bit. Sam’s sadness was making Luke sad. Luke really wished he could just hop out of his seat and cheer Sam up. But of course, they were in a dumb class, in a dumb school. The fact that Mr. Al was the teacher didn’t help at all.

“Who can tell me what the prime factorization of sixteen is?” Mr. Al asked. At least it was only prime factorization. Luke immediately sprang out of his daze like a dog when there is a sudden noise. Following that, he shot his hand up. But Olivia threw her hand up first like her arm was a lightning bolt, but going up instead of down. You see, in Luke’s class, whoever raised their hand first got to pick, so Mr. Al called on Olivia.

“Two times two times two times two! Easy!” Olivia answered, then shot Luke a nasty look. Luke scowled and turned to the teacher.

“How about the prime factorization of nine?” Mr. Al asked. Again, Olivia, the know-it-all, lightning-bolt-armed girl, shot her lightning bolt arm skyward in mere milliseconds.

“Three times three! Too easy! Please, please, make them harder!”

Olivia shot Luke another nasty look, and Luke ignored it.

“Fine. How about...the prime factorization of ten?”

Somehow, by some lucky chance, Luke just barely beat the lightning bolt. Mr. Al said, “Luke?”

“Five times two!” Luke yelled out. Luke gave Olivia an evil grin.

“Good job.” Mr. Al said. Now, the reason Luke hated Mr. Al, is well...if you couldn’t tell, he’s very boring. A few more minutes of boring math, and Luke caught a glimpse of Sam again, at the corner of his eye. Before he could turn over and stare at Sam some more, the bell rang.

“Good job, today. Tomorrow we’re doing fractions.” Mr. Al said. The class groaned.

Luke got up and walked up to Sam who was still moping.

“Hey, are you okay? You seem...upset.” Luke asked. Sam lifted his head from his hands with his eyes bloody red from the tears.

“Yeah. Fine.” Sam lied. Luke grabbed his hand and walked him outside where their mom would pick them up. Luke, when their mom wasn’t around, was Sam’s caretaker. Sam was only twelve, while Luke was fourteen. Luke didn’t pass two of the school years, so Luke and Sam ended up in the same class.

Luke and Sam walked outside. They had to wait a bit for their mom, but eventually she came driving into the school parking lot. She got out of the car, and she too, had bloody red eyes from crying. Ugh, both of them?

“How was sc-oh. Sam is upset again? Is it about dad?” Their mom asked.

“Yes. He ha-”

Their mom blew into a tissue, interrupting Luke.

“Yes. He has been crying about it all day…” Luke explained.

“I want dad back!” Sam cried.

“I know honey, I know…” Their mom said as she rubbed Sam’s back. “It’s okay. We’re going to go home, and have a nice dinner. Sam, it’s your favorite-macaroni and cheese! Hopefully that’ll cheer you up a bit.” When their mom said “cheer up” somehow she stopped sniffling quite a bit, she was probably thinking about the wonderful life they have, even without their dad.

They walked towards their red car. They all got in, and fastened their seat belts. About halfway through the car drive, their mom blew her nose...her foot still on the gas. They approached another car at full speed.

“MOM!” Luke screamed.

They bashed into the car with great impact. They all blacked out. What came next was a very sad and tragic moment in Luke’s and Sam’s life.

There was a portal. Luke’s mom was there. Luke’s mom was getting sucked into the portal. Luke, on the other hand, was standing there, not being able to move. He could just move his arms.

“GRAB MY HAND!!” Luke screamed as he reached out to his mother. “GRAB IT!”

“Good...bye…….Luke…” his mom said as she slowly faded away into the portal.

“NOOOOOO!!!!!” Luke screamed. “Please...PLEASE...PLEASE NO!! WHY!??! WHY, AFTER ALL THE TRAGEDIES THAT ALREADY HAPPENED IN MY LIFE!!!!!”

Luke soon learned none of this was real when his eyes flew open. He was in a hospital bed. He turned his head to see Sam in another bed. He turned the other way to find his mother, lying there. Still not awake. He took a look at the heart rate monitor and a tear managed to escape his eyes. He didn’t notice the on-going beeping sound for a while...but his mom...his mom was dead.

The doctor came in, and immediately noticed Luke’s open eyes.

“Hello. I am so sorry for your mother...look, you might be wondering what’s going to happen to you now. We’re going to find someone to parent you, and you’ll live with them for the rest of your childhood. Again, I am so sorry about your mother…”

“All the tragedies...I-I just can’t anymore.” Luke cried. Then, thank god, Sam burst into tears. It may not sound like a thank god, but it is, because that meant Sam was alive.

The rest of the year, a whole year, parents wanting Luke and Sam come and go, signing papers and doing all that adoption stuff. Luke didn’t pay attention to them. He only thought about one thing, and one thing only. His mother. She had given them love forever. All that love, down the drain. Hopefully whoever became their new parent was friendly.

So. Who’s next? Sam? What do you want to do? Luke thought to himself, half-expecting an answer from God or something. Something along the lines of Yes. Sam. Then you! Because you guys are my little toys and I love killing them!

The doctor walked in, interrupting Luke’s trail of thoughts.

“Hey. Someone wants to adopt you. They want to take you now. You feel better, according to our tech, so you can go. Again, sorry for your mother. Goodbye Luke, goodbye Sam.” The doctor said. As Luke passed by the doctor, she whispered something into his ear. “Watch out for her...she seems a bit...off...remember to call 9-1-1 if anything happens…”

“Hi, Luck, Hi Sum. Sorry about your mommy, let’s go.” A girl with a black suit and rock guitar earrings said. As if that was normal.

“Um...t-that’s not our names…”

“Zip it, Luck. I’m your parent now, you will obey my rules. When we get home, you need to clean the bathroom. That includes the toilet!”

Luke automatically was scared of this random person.

“I’m scared, Luke…” Sam whispered into Luke’s ear. Luke bent over to tell Sam something.

“NO SECRETS, YOU LITTLE DEVILS.” The girl said. “If you are talking about my name, well...my name is Mrs. None of your business. Got it? No more questions. Also, no buts! You have to clean the bathroom, make it sparkling clean. As a test to see if it’s really clean, you have to lick the toilet seat.

Luke shivered at that thought. He put his hand on Sam’s back and noticed Sam shaking like it was negative three hundred degrees.

“Hey, hey, it’ll all be alright, Sam. I’m sure she’s jo-”

“Joking? JOKING!? I don’t joke, and you better know that from now on. I’m serious!”

That didn’t help Sam at all. Nor did it help Luke, as Luke, inside, was just as scared as Sam.

They rode home in a black car with red. They listened to loud metal music all the way to their new house. About halfway through the drive, Sam asked, “M-may y-you p-p-please turn that down a-a bit…?”

“Sorry Sum, but no. You brats get no say in the music. I do it however I want.”

“O-okay...I-I’m sorry, Mrs. None of your business…” Sam said, and immediately regretted mocking her.

“You dare mock me!? You, child, are cleaning the bathroom, only you! And Luck, you clean the attic, as a reward for not mocking me yet.” she shouted.

They eventually got to their ‘home’. Their home was an old, tiny house, with cobwebs everywhere. Luke expected this as well, and the door creaked when opening it. The bushes rattled. Luke looked over but saw nothing. He heard someone yell “Get off of me, you freak!”. Huh? He was brought back to reality by the women slapping him. “Pay attention.” She opened the door.

“Welcome home, brats.” she said, opening the door and revealing at least twenty children Luke’s age, all scrubbing the floor. Also, there was one more problem.

There was no phone, which meant...no 9-1-1.

Luke, searched around the house for a phone, while the woman who adopted them was running around yelling at people, thinking Luke was currently cleaning.

“Luke, I know you’re new, so just telling you-you better listen to Mrs. NOYB. Sorry, that’s what we call her. It stands for None of your business. If you don’t listen to her, she will beat you up. Rumor is, she killed someone once.” Someone ran up to Luke and said.

After hearing that, Luke scrambled to the attic, just to realize that he had no clue where to go.

“Attic is up those stairs, Luke! Go!” that boy said. “Good luck, you’ll need it.”

When Luke got up there, he saw a window. He couldn’t escape now though, not alone. He needed Sam. He thought that he would tell him about the window. The singular window. Unfortunately, that meant getting in real trouble, in order to be demoted to cleaning that yucky bathroom. All day Luke caused trouble.

“Doh, Mrs. NOYB. Sounds like NO. So she is terrible, because God said no to her existence, but she existed anyways! Ha ha ha!” Luke shouted. Unfortunately, it was apparently a bit too much trouble. To Luke’s surprise, Mrs. NOYB charged him and pinned him to the ground.

“Don’t insult me, boy. Don’t you even dare.” Mrs. NOYB said punching his face with each word.

“S-sorry…” Luke moaned. With his bloody nose and great nausea, he just lie there. Sam rushed over when Mrs. NOYB was looking away.

“Luke, what was that?!?!? You heard, right!? You could have got killed!” Sam whisper-yelled.

“Sam...window...attic...let’s go…” Luke slowly said. Luke tried to get up. Everywhere was hurting, his face especially. At least he could still move around.

Luke, with his arm on Sam, walked up the stairs...and walked to the attic. They were just entering the attic when Mrs. NOYB screamed.

“SSSSSSUUUUUUUUUUUUUMMMMMMMMM!!!!!!!!” She screamed.

“Crud...” Sam whispered. With Luke being able to move without support now, they both nodded at each other, and Luke punched the glass hard. They stepped back and glass shattered everywhere. Despite the fact that punching the glass had hurt Luke’s hand, Luke and Sam looked out the now broken window, with Mrs. NOYB charging from behind, and realized the problem. They were too far up. Mrs. NOYB torpedoed towards them.

“We’re trapped!” Sam screamed.

“Well, goodbye world!” Luke said as he winked at Sam and Sam burst into tears as they jumped.

“WE’RE GOING TO DIE!!” Sam screamed.

“Yeah, so we’re leaving the world. LEAVING.” Luke said as he winked in mid-air. Sam wondered what Luke was up to, then realized he was moving a bit to the side.

“Do what I do, Sam!” Luke screamed.

Luke, with his great reflexes, grabbed onto a branch on a tree. Luke, alive, just hoped Sam would land too. But, luck wasn’t on Luke’s side. Sam fell right past him, but Luke grabbed his hand.

“Please...not now god...not now…” Luke said as his hands started sweating up, making his hand slippery. Luke pulled on his brother, praying that Sam would survive a bit longer. Luke jumped as Sam dropped down a few inches, just barely holding on to Luke’s fingers.

“COME ON!!! PLEASE GOD!!!” Luke screamed.

Luke pulled with all his might. Please god...let me have just one family member...one...family member...left…

Luke’s heart beat at least a million times per second, as Sam slipped farther down on his hand.

But, of course, luck wasn’t on Luke’s side. Sam let go of Luke’s hand and fell to the ground in slow motion. Luke reached his hand out, screaming.

“NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!” He screamed.

With great impact, Sam hit the ground and…

And Sam’s life was over.

“NO!” Luke screamed as Sam lie there on the ground far below, dead.

WHY GOD…!? WHY!? YOU ARE TRYING TO KILL US!!!! WHY US!?!??! WHY!?!?!?!?!

“Don’t spend your time with his death. How about, thinking about your own death.” A familiar voice said as  a hand pushed Luke off the branch.

Luke fell, and fell.

And then…

Luck returned to Luke. A branch fell from the tree and Luke jumped off of the branch as it was falling and raised his hand, and punched Mrs. NOYB off the branch. Yes, it was Mrs. NOYB’s voice.

It was a few minutes later when Luke had realized that punching her had been a horrible choice.

Luke’s head pounded as he struggled to get up. What on earth was going on? He squinted his eyes shut. He couldn’t take anymore of this craziness. Luke dug his fingernails into his palm.

Please say all of this is a bad dream… Luke thought. Luke heard a raur from a distance. Oh that’s just my mom and she’s yelling at me. I’m late for school and it’s a normal day. None of this happened.

Then really close to Luke was a really loud stomp. That was not his mom. Luke dug his fingernails deeper into his palm, trying to not open his eyes. Then the stomp that seemed to be right next to him came. Luke flew his eyes open. He found himself staring into deep, yellow eyes about the size of Luke’s head.

“Dinosaurs…” Luke whispered. He scooted back as quickly as possible as the huge imaginary dinosaur stomped toward him. Could things actually affect him if he was hurt? If he died, would he be dead in reality too? Thoughts soared through Luke’s mind as he ran into another invisible wall behind him.

The dinosaur lunged at Luke, ready for his tasty snack. Slobber covered Luke’s whole body as the huge jaws enclosed around him. Everything went black. Looks like he did die in reality too. But then...Luke gasped for breath as his eyes flew open.

“Bad dream?” Luke mumbled, still shocked after feeling how it feels to die.

“No, Luke. It was real. This is just the reincarnation process. Don’t worry, when you are in your new body, you won’t remember this or anything that happened in your life. Ah, found a good time for you. How about twenty thirty??” A strange featureless figure said while hovering over Luke.

“Wait wha-”

“And off you go!” the figure said as he tossed Luke into this strange portal.

His clothes fell off, and forgetting no one would see him, Luke covered his private part with his hands. Then, he transformed into a baby, losing hair, getting smaller, that sort of stuff.

And like that, his new life had started. Luke stared at a woman with blonde hair and beautiful ocean blue eyes.

“Hi there, baby...I’m your mother now. Enjoy life.” The woman said with a soft, warm voice. Something ringed in the back of Luke’s head-his missing memories. It was then when Luke felt extremely cold. Being a baby, he did the only thing he could do-cry. He cried and cried, and his new mother hushed him softly.

“It’s okay, baby. Hm...how about I name you...Luke. How about that, huh?” the mother said. The ringing in the back of Luke’s head rang even harder. Luke cooed at the name. He was, after all, a baby now. For a while, Luke  lived quite the normal life. Until it started to have similarities to his original Luke life. He was about ten years old, and he was bouncing around on his trampoline. That’s when he heard the rustle in the bushes. He stopped, dead silent. His father was out there with him.

“Luke...Stay. Still.” He whispered.

“Dad, it’s just the rac-”

Luke jumped back as a woman jumped out of the bushes. She had a gun.

“Luke, RUN!” His father yelled. Luke obeyed his father and sprinted off. He was running as fast as the flash, or so it felt like.

Then, the bullet pierced straight through his father.

“Gah!” His father yelled.

A tear managed to escape Luke’s eyes as he ran. The tear dripped off of him and flew behind him.

“Come here, boy! We have matters to discuss!” the woman said from behind Luke.

Luke didn’t dare look behind him. He knew the horror he would face. The scary thing was...Luke somehow recognized that woman.

“Don’t be a chicken. Listen to me!” The woman screamed.

“Never! You killed my father!” Luke screamed. “How would I ever listen to you?”

“Ugh, haven’t you figured it out yet, Luck!?”

“Luck? Excuse me?” Luke asked.

“Ugh fine. Your real name is Luke. We were enemies in the past life.”

“Past life? What?”

“Argh! You haven’t figured anything out yet, have you? Ugh, well, you were reincarnated in your past life. You were reincarnated into what you are now. Each time we are reincarnated, we forget everything and we have ten years before a dinosaur will chase us, and kill us off again. It’s torture. They keep chasing us until we kill the dinosaur.”

“Wow. A whole lot to take in-”

“I knew you would say that.”

“How do you know all that? And wait, if we were enemies, why must we cooperate?”

“Two questions. Two answers. Answer number one, in the future, in your next life, you explain it to me. So, I’m telling you now. I learned that from future you, so eventually you will tell me what I am now telling you. Confusing, I know. You tell me in an...odd situation. Answer number two, because the more the better, right?”

“Yeah, I guess. Also...ow! My brain hurts just from thinking about it.”

“Don’t think about it.”
“Easier said than done!”

“So...what do we have to do?” Luke gasped. “Crud! My tenth birthday is tomorrow. Is that when I die!?”

“I don’t know, this might be the time we defeat it!”

“Ha, that would be nice.”

“First, we need a plan.” She said. “Got any memories?”

“Speak of the devil! I think I just got one...a dinosaur! Yeah! I died...because I got cornered. We need space.”

“Uh-huh. Okay. So...we should-”

“Luke?” A voice called out.

“My mom…” He whispered. He then called out to his mom: “Hey Mom, just going to a friend’s house, okay?”

“Yeah, okay! Bye-bye!” she called. “Wait, Luke, where’s your dad?”

“Umm...err…” He gave a glare at this woman. “Oh, he had to go out to work! He’s working because umm...overtime!”

“Sorry about that.” She whispered.

“Okay! Have a good time!” Luke’s mom called out as they walked away.

“If there is a field, we co-” Luke started. What stopped him was his view instantly changing to an open field. “This will work, I guess.”

“Luke...Luke! Crud...we’re getting closer. Luke...you are hallucinating! It’s almost time!”

Luke kept walking, not seeing him.

“I’m hallucinating?” Luke said right before he banged into a tree and got knocked out.

Luke woke up, thankfully. He, at least for a little longer, is not in a dinosaur’s stomach.

“Luck! Oh, thank god!” the woman said. “I did a few things. First, I learned that every time, on your tenth birthday, the first break of daylight is when the dinosaur comes. Also, I brought you to a field. Trust me on this, you are in a field. What are you seeing?”

“A field.”

“Oh thank god. Guess what? THE SUN!” At that word, the ground started thumping and Luke jumped up. The final minutes, possibly seconds of this life. He knew he couldn’t defeat the dinosaur. He flashed back to all his memories as the dinosaur stomped towards him.

“LUCK!”

“I cannot do it. We didn’t have enough time.”

The dinosaur reached him and opened his jaws. Adrenaline shot all throughout Luke. He didn’t die. No. No. Not now. Not. Now. Luke sprinted at the fastest speed he ever did in his life.

He ran, and ran. A stick! He grabbed it and right as he turned around, the jaws reached toward him and he was in the slobbery mouth of the dinosaur. Then, the jaws closed all around him. Time’s up. Minus one chance. How much chances did he get?

The last thing he heard was the screaming of the woman as he closed his eyes.

“Another chance, alright? You thought about how much chances you got. Well...I’ll say this, it’s not unlimited.”

“What? Not Unlimited? Seriously? You’re torturing me, you can at LEAST give me that! But no, of course not!”

“I was given orders, I am expected to obey them.” The featureless man replied.

“By whom?” Luke replied, very curious about this situation.

“None of your concern. Don’t assume I’m stupid. I know what you are up to, but you must follow the rules of the game.”

“The game? The game!? This is all just some stupid game your boss or whatever is playing? Living beings, being controlled like dolls? That is not right. Not right at all!”

“Look, I agree with you one hundred percent...but the thing is...I have to follow these orders or else...he’ll torture me. I’m like a slave, I’m in the same situation you are in. I feel like a doll too.” he whispered into Luke’s ears. He jumped up acting excited, but from that information, Luke couldn’t help but see that cold, angry face behind his smile.

“Well, Luke! Good luck with your dinosaur situation! One more thing, though-you keep all information you have as long as it has to do with the dinosaur situation. I’ll call it Project Dinosaur.” The man enlarged his hands to giant’s hands and grabbed Luke, and he threw him into the portal like he was a dodgeball in a gym class.

Luke found himself lying in a woman’s arms again.

“Aw, Isn’t he gorgeous?” Her soft warm voice said.

“Yeah...very nice...” A low, gruff voice said. Luke looked towards an old man with a shaggy beard and mustache.

Then, Luke felt it. The temperature. He burst into tears.

“Shhhhh...It’s alright, sweetie...shhh, shhh…” His new mother whispered. Now that Luke got a look at her, she was beautiful, again. Long, brown hair drooped down to where Luke was, her eyes were a hazel color.

Luke remembered all the information of Project Dinosaur. Wait...the woman said in the next life, which is this life, he would explain the situation to her. The thing is, Luke remembered how to run and talk too! You won’t be able to imagine this. Luke, a baby who was minutes old, jumped off the woman’s bed and ran.

“Holy. Crap. It’s a baby escapist!” is what Luke heard as he ran out.

Luke quickly realized something. Where was he running? He had no clue where that woman lived. A voice whispered in his head.

Hey Luke! Don’t think I don’t believe in fair play! I know where she lives. Tell her all the information! She lives in Roola Avenue, the Fourteenth house. Okay, bye-bye!

Well, that answered that question. As Luke was running he heard a voice. But this time...it wasn’t in his head. It sounded ghostly, too.

“Luuukkkeeee...” It said. Luke turned around. For a split second...Luke could have sworn he saw a ghostly figure dissolving into thin air. That’s when Luke saw people staring at him.

“Uhh...Don’t mind me.” Luke said in a baby voice. He sprinted off and eventually found Roola Avenue. He turned and walked to the Fourteenth house.

“Luuukkkeeee...help...me…” The ghostly voice said. He spun around and saw the figure. It was...Sam? No, this must have been his baby mind messing with him. He turned into the driveway of Fourteen Roolan Avenue. All over the window was pictures that Luke recognized somehow. Past Life photos, probably. But how did this woman have those? Luke got to the door and knocked very lightly, as his baby body was weak. He waited and eventually someone came to the door.

“Oh my god, Luke!” A low, gruff voice said.

“Uh...Hi?” That was NOT a woman.

“Luke! It’s me, Sam!” The man shouted. “I reincarnated...the dinosaur got me!”

“No...this is just my mind messing with me…” Luke whispered. ‘Sam’ put his hands on Luke’s baby shoulders.

“Does this feel fake to you?” He said.

“Wait. How do I remember you?” Luke said. “And how do you remember me, if you reincarnated?

“He forgot to erase those memories. Whoever he is.” Sam explained.

“I see...well, is the woman here? You might know who I’m talking about.” Luke asked.

“Mrs. NOYB? Oh yeah...she doesn’t have any memory of this situation.”

“Yup. Mrs. NOYB explained the situation to me, then said that in the next life, which is this life, I would explain it to her. It’s sort of like an endless time loop. We keep telling each other the situation.”

“Oh. Well, why don’t you go tell her?”

“Daddy, who is it?”

Daddy? Daddy!? Sam is Mrs. NOYB’s father!? Well, in this life!?

“Ah! Umm...this baby...can talk? What?” She said. She came to the door. She had long, blonde hair and had her classic rock guitar earrings.

“Umm...Hi.” Luke said.

“Okay...this is umm...strange. What do you...uhh...want?”

“I have to explain something to you.”

“Er...okay...umm...come in.”

Luke walked into the house. It was quite small, but had beautiful furniture and decor.

“So...what is it that you want to explain?” She asked.

Luke explained the whole situation to her.

“That’s a lot to take in…”

“That’s exactly what I said in my last life.” Luke said, realizing how she knew he would say that in the past life.

“Okay...well...what do we do? Wait...my tenth birthday is tomorrow! Is that when I die?”

Luke, despite all the craziness, chuckled inside.

Wow. It’s like the past life...but we switched spots! Am I a girl? Is she really a boy with long hair?

“I dunno, maybe that’s when we beat it.” Luke said, copying what she said in the past life.

“That would be nice.”

“Well...we need a plan...and...uh...try not to get knocked out.”

“Why? Did that happen in my next life to you?”

“...Maybe…”

Of course, everything had to happen how it did to him. As they were walking out, she started hallucinating.

And she got knocked out. Only this time...she didn’t wake up in time.

“No...the sun…”

Each stomp of the dinosaur was in slow motion. It came in slow motion. It bent down and swallowed Mrs. NOYB whole. Blood splattered everywhere. Luke knew what he had to do.

He ran and ran. He needed a weapon. He grabbed a stick from nearby and turned around, and...again he was right in the dinosaur’s face.

But then...another stick hit the dinosaur from behind.

“Ha ha! Take that, dinosaur!” Sam said. The dinosaur roared and turned around. This was Luke’s chance! He ran towards the dinosaur and jumped on top of him. The dinosaur started jumping up and down, trying to get Luke off of it. But he just held on.

“Hop on, S-” Luke started, but the dinosaur jumped up and managed to throw Luke off of him. Luke hit his head hard on a tree. He opened his eyes just barely as the dinosaur torpedoed toward him.

“No! Luke!” Sam screamed. Luke tried to scoot back but couldn’t as his back was against the tree.

“Good...boy...don’t eat me...please…” Luke whispered. Then the dinosaur froze. Completely froze.

“Hold on, hold on, pause. This is too boring!” A voice said. Just then, a figure appeared...he was completely white with his only feature being his eyes, which were blood red.

Luke assumed this was the reincarnation guy’s 'master'.

“This is so boring! Why don’t we crank it up a bit? How about having five dinosaurs instead?”

Crank it up!? That was a HORRIBLE idea! They are already almost dead!

“Crank it up!? CRANK IT UP!? What, are you stupid or something!? This is already intense enough!” Luke screamed.

“Er...eh, how about ten dinosaurs? That sounds better.” He snapped his fingers and all around Luke dinosaurs popped into existence. “Enjoy! Oh, and my apprentice/slave thing said you didn’t have unlimited lives. He’s right. Here’s the amount-you have three lives. Not including your first live. So...you have one more live after this! Bye-bye!”

With that, the figure snapped his finger and he vanished into thin air and the dinosaurs came to life. They roared as they spotted their target, Luke. Luke gulped.

“This can’t be good…” he murmured.

“Hey, Dinosaurs! I’m umm...more tasty than Luke! My blood type is the best! It’s umm...O negative! Yeah! Tasty!” Sam screamed. Luke gave Sam a look of disapproval, but apparently the dinosaurs approved. They turned towards him and charged.

“Hey! No, my blood type is tastier! It’s A positive!” Luke screamed.

Sam gave Luke a look that said What? You have the same blood type as me… and Luke gave a shrug. Unfortunately, the dinosaurs still thought Sam was a tastier snack. Tons of plans that always work in movies and stuff stormed through Luke’s mind. He settled on the Give Em’ A Taste of their Own Medicine plan. Luke jumped onto a dinosaur’s back and with all his might and force rode the dinosaur to one direction, attacking all the dinosaurs in that direction. The dinosaurs couldn’t see Luke, so they all got in a dinosaur fight. Luke hopped off the dinosaur and watched it like a movie. He wished he had some nice popcorn. His teeth, being baby teeth, probably couldn’t handle that though.

“Sam, come on!” Luke whisper yelled. They snuck off, but what made them stop was a very loud, guttural roar.

They stopped in their tracks and swiftly spun around. A dinosaur noticed them, and all of them torpedoed toward them.

“Yeah...got a plan?” Luke asked.

“Yup. It’s called RUN!” Sam screamed.

They bolted off into the forest behind Mrs. NOYB’s house. The tree saved Luke and Sam’s lives when after a few stomps of the dinosaurs, a few trees fell over, forming a wall between the two brothers and the dinosaurs.

“This is my second to last chance…” Luke whispered. “What happens if I die on the last chance?”

A hole opened up in the trees. A huge dinosaur eye peered through. They all crawled through the holes and the brothers dashed off.

“What are we going to do!?” Sam screamed.

“You think I have an idea!? You’re usually the idea guy!”

Luke shouted.

“Keep running and we’ll be okay.” Sam said. “I don’t have any other idea!”

“Are you sure about that!?” Luke screamed as one of the dinosaurs stepped right in front of the brothers.

“Plan B: We don’t run. We fight.” Luke said, hoping he sounded heroic.

“Fight!? That’s going to get us killed!”

“It’s our only option…” Luke said as he grabbed a stick.

“Ready, brother? We always wanted to have an adventurous life...here it is! Let’s fight this one. Together.”

“Yeah. Team Sluke all the way!” Sam screamed. They grabbed a stick off the ground and faced toward the crowd.

“You want a tasty snack, guys? Well, come and get it!” Luke shouted. He ran, and ran and that’s when his skills kicked in. All that jumping off walls from gym class was about to pay off. Luke and Sam both jumped off a tree and high fived as they landed on a dinosaur and they both stabbed it with a stick. It roared, although Luke had a feeling all that did was tickle.

“Come on! Die, Die, Die you dumb dinosaur!” Sam screamed, stabbing it over and over. Finally, Sam got some blood. He kept stabbing into his body and Luke decided to join. They stabbed and stabbed, and held on tight as the dinosaur jumped up and down, almost making Sam and Luke fall off multiple times.

“Luke! Watch out!” Sam screamed as a dinosaur lunged at Luke from behind.

Luke ducked and said “Oh, you want a piece of me? Come at me!”

The dinosaur obeyed Luke and lunged again, ready for his tasty snack. Luke ducked and then got up. But the dinosaur was too quick. Right as he got up, it got a taste of Luke. A large one. His whole body. Swallowed by a dinosaur, again.

Here comes my last chance...Last chance...please don’t die...please don’t die. Luke thought as he blacked out.

Luke was reborn as a new baby. This was his last chance. He better do good this time or who knows what. Remembering how to walk, talk and all the knowledge obtained from the dinosaur situation, Luke did the same thing he did his last life...he hopped off his mother’s stomach, not even getting a glimpse of what she looked like. But as he was mid-jump, an invisible force yanked him up and threw him into a portal on the roof.

“AHHHH!!” Luke screamed.

“Hey, Luke! Since this is your last try, let’s make it a little more fair-”

“It isn’t and never will be fair.” Luke grumbled, instantly realizing his situation. He was meeting up with the feature-less guy. UGH.

“Why don’t we look into a possible future for you, one where you die, so you know what to stay away from?”

Luke instantly smiled and said “Continue.”

“Come on. Let’s go!” He yelled with joy as he launched Luke into another portal. He sat up. He was in a dark alley. The feature-less man was nowhere in sight.

Luke heard screaming from nearby. He got up and crept towards the screaming. He peeked around the corner of a building.

“Keep screaming. He’s coming soon!” a voice so familiar to Luke said.

Luke rushed towards the continued screaming to find out what the voice was. It was his future self, all tied up to the ground. Just to make it easier, Luke just called him Fluke. Fluke was tied up right next to a girl. Mrs. NOYB, probably.

Fluke looked right at Luke. He waved at him to come untie them.  This may not be his definite future, but it still is a possible one. He didn’t want to take the risk at leave Fluke tied up, just in case that is him. Luke sprinted towards Fluke with all his might. Then a large footstep noise happened. Luke looked towards the rising sun, seeing a pack of ten dinosaurs, blocking off any sunlight there was. Luke sprinted even faster to Fluke. He grabbed a rope, and just as he grabbed it an invisible force launched him into a portal that appeared. Luke got one last glance of Fluke. If that was his future, he wasn’t in too much luck.

“Alright, Luke, don’t try that. I wouldn’t let you mess with that future. Okay, your free to go. Good luck on your last chance.” The feature-less man extended his arm and tried to grab Luke. But Luke just slapped his hand back.

“I’m done with being played with like a doll! I’m not just going to sit here anymore, not fighting back! You want me to have a last chance? Make me.” Luke yelled.

“Luke...I don’t want to-”

“Well then I’m NOT having my last chance!” Luke screamed.

“Fine. So be it. Let’s fight.” He said. He extended his arm, and Luke jumped up to dodge it. The feature-less man then started vibrating, and his whole body grew. Eventually, he was the size of godzilla. Luke drifted his eyes up to eventually find the face. He stared in pure terror. He ran and ran, and behind him the feature-less man ran after him. He snapped his fingers and the whole scene changed to a volcano erupting. A bunch of molten rocks launched out of the volcano. Luke dodged them, but barely. The lava poured out like a jug of orange juice.

Luke faced his fears and jumped on the feature-less man. He scaled him like he was a mountain. The feature-less man swatted him like a bug as he climbed. Luke climbed and climbed and eventually got to his face. He punched him over and over, with the plan of at least knocking him over into the lava. None of that worked, so Luke resorted to the most painful thing he could do-biting. Biting would probably hurt as much as a bee sting, which hurts, so he’ll fall back into the lava. Perfect! Luke dug his teeth into the feature-less man’s squishy flesh. He bit and bit some more. He fell back into the lava! It worked! As he melted into ashes, gone for what Luke hoped to be for good, he grabbed Luke and threw him into a portal, and with the last bit of energy he had, he closed the portal. He melted into ashes and whispered. “Master...I have failed you…”

Luke re-appeared where he left off in the last chance. He ran and ran, knowing what had to be done. It was risky, because she was with him in that future vision, too. But it had to be done.

He had to find Mrs. NOYB. And that thought is when Luke realized.

Where was Sam during the future vision?

Luke didn’t think about it too much. What he had to focus on right now was finding Mrs. NOYB. Luke exited the hospital and saw a girl about his size sprinting towards Luke.

“LUCK!!!!” It screamed. It was Mrs. NOYB baby edition.

“Mrs. NOYB?” Luke asked.

“Yes. I am Mrs. NOYB. Come on, we gotta solve the dinosaur thing! We gotta kill it!” She said.

“Yes we do. But….you kinda missed something in your first life.”

“I did? What?”
“The guy came down...and he kinda cranked up how many dinosaurs there are.”

“Wait. Seriously!? How much are there now!?”

“Ummm….not uh...too much...maybe....uh...ten dinosaurs.”

“Holy…! How the heck are we going to defeat TEN dinosaurs!?”

“Not a clue. That’s why we have to plan now!”

“I can help with a plan.” Someone said. Luke spun around to see another baby.

“Sam?” Luke asked.

“SUM!?” Mrs. NOYB screeched.

“Nooo, I’m totally just a random baby who runs up to you and talks to you. Of course I am Sam!”

“Oh Sam! So good to see you!”

“You too. Now, how exactly are we going to kill ten dinosaurs?”

“We need some sort of weapon first. That’s what I think” Luke said.

“Agreed.” Mrs. NOYB and Sam said.

“I may happen to know someone who is good a weaponry.” Mrs. NOYB said. Sam and Luke stared at her blankly.

“Er...and who might that be?”

When they got to the weaponsmith, a gruff man with a beard and an apron covered in coal chunks. He turned around and saw the gang, and the funniest thing to Luke ever happened. A grown, gruff man, screamed like a little girl and jumped back.

“Heeyyyy, Ryan. Umm....it’s Mrs. NOYB. I’ll umm...explain later.”

“HOW DO YOU KNOW MY-wait Mrs. NOYB? Hm...who are those two?”

Mrs. NOYB looked at Luke and Sam and winked, then turned back to Ryan and said “My pesky assistants.”

“What!? No, we-” Mrs. NOYB clapped her hand on Luke’s

Mouth.

“Just go with it.” she whispered as she un-clamped his mouth.

“Oh yeah...Umm....Mrs. NOYB is the uh...almighty uh...er...person.” Luke said,

Mrs. NOYB put her hands on her forehead and nodded,

then looked back up.

“Alright, y’all take a seat.” Ryan pointed to chairs.

He lifted us all up into the chairs.

“So, I got into this situation you will not believe. I died. Quite a few times. Most of them were from a dinosaur...then there was one other death that…” Mrs. NOYB glared at Luke. “Umm...let’s not talk about that death. So, we all have three chances to defeat ten dinosaurs. It used to be one...but um...that’s a story for another time.”

“Hold up. So you reincarnated. How do you remember your past lives?”

“You see, I don’t know. We just do.”

“Okay. A mystery is cool. So, I’m assuming you need a weapon to kill a dino-wait...a dinosaur? How is that possible?”

“Hallucinations, Illusions, whatever you want to call them. But the thing is, if you die in the hallucination, you die in real life.”

“Ah, I see. So...ya need a weapon to kill the dinosaur? Since your babies and all, you got no cash, I’m assuming. So, how about this...you give me one of your assistants for a few moments, then you’ll have him back.”

“Sure. Which one?” Mrs. NOYB responded.

The weaponsmith pointed to Sam. What’s so big about Sam?

We waited in the seats for a few minutes for Sam to come out. Eventually, he did.

“Alright, here’s your weapon. It’s sure to kill a dinosaur” Sam came out carrying a weapon sure to be too heavy for his baby body.

“So, you going to take it Luke? You’re the leader.”

“Aw c’mon, I wanted to be the leader!” Mrs. NOYB complained.

Luke got up to grab it, and that’s when Luke was tricked.

Sam raised the sword up, and whacked Luke in the head with it, knocking him out.

“SAM!? You...YOU MONSTER! You were the feature-less man with the red eyes the whole-” That’s all Luke heard from Mrs. NOYB as he blacked out. The last thing he saw was the feature-less, red-eyed man in Sam’s spot, and Mrs. NOYB on the ground.

Sam...the person Luke least expected to be the bad guy...was the bad guy all along.

Luke woke up in a strange area full of computers and other high-tech stuff Luke didn’t even recognize.

“Oh, lookie here, my brother is up.” A voice said. Luke tried to stand up, but it turned out he was strapped down to a very uncomfortable chair. He looked around and saw that Mrs. NOYB was also strapped to a chair.

Luke looked around some more to see his brother, Sam. Then he realized it wasn’t his brother, and just some all-powerful being acting like his brother.

“You monster.” Luke said coldly.

“Monster? Oh my goodness, I didn’t know my dolls could talk!”

“Your a monster. You play with living beings like dolls! That’s just abuse of power. Were you acting as Sam the whole time? My whole life, you were just a monster in disguise?”

“No, no, no! Your brother Sam was way too weak before. You really think that was me? No, when he fell from the tree, he really died! I just took his place, and made up some story.” The red-eyed man said. “I cannot believe you haven’t figured any of this out yet! Your a stupid doll.”

“Human. Not doll.”

“Your a doll to me. Your helpless as I play with you for my entertainment. You killed my assistant. Now, I shall kill you.”

“Umm...No! Wait! Let me continue the dinosaur-hunt thing! Your assistant showed me the future! I um...die! Yeah! So if I die, it’s fine to just continue the hunt!”

“I’ll make you a deal. If you fight me, both of you, so it’s fair, and you win, I will let you continue the trials. If you lose...well, I guess your dead anyways.”

Luke shivered at the thought. Him and Mrs. NOYB, fighting an all powerful being. If it was his only chance to get a chance to live, then he had to.

“Fine. How am I going to beat you, though? Your immortal, right?”

“Yes. I am immortal. But I shall have you pick a weapon. Then, you will pick some armor. These swords can never kill me, but they have the power to hurt me. When you see blue blood spill out, you win. When I see you dead, I win. Okay?”

“Okay.”

The red-eyed man reached his arm out and floated Luke up and towards a wall covered with weapons and armor.

“Which one do you want?”

“Arghhh….Lu-Luke…” a voice moaned.

“Oh lookie! Your little friend is up. Let’s explain what we’re doing, shall we?”

The red-eyed man hovered over to Mrs. NOYB and she screamed. The red-eyed-man set Luke down from him floating. Then, he explained everything to Mrs. NOYB.

“Luck...I mean….Luke!? You wanted to fight!? What is wrong with you!?”

“He said if we win, we can continue our trials. He would have killed us anyway if we didn’t fight.”

“Oh. Great. Just Great.” Mrs. NOYB groaned. “So...can I...choose my weapon and armor?”
“I was doing that right as you got up.”

The red-eyed man floated Mrs. NOYB to the weapons and armors, and set her down.

Luke walked up to a metal-colored armor and blade.

“This’ll fit me.” he said. He grabbed the suit and put it on. He grabbed the sword and slashed it around a few times.

“Lookin’ fancy!” The red-eyed man said. Luke looked over to Mrs. NOYB as she put on her golden armor with her quiver and crossbow.

Luke and Mrs. NOYB faced the red-eyed man.

“Alright. It looks like your ready, in your fancy armor. Let’s fight.” The red-eyed man said. He charged at Luke and Luke jumped to the side. Mrs. NOYB shot an arrow at The red-eyed man, but missed as he teleported behind her.

“Look out, behind you!” Luke screamed to Mrs. NOYB. She grabbed an arrow and did a sort of spin attack move as if the arrow was a sword.

“Argh!” The red-eyed man said as he jumped back in pain. He shaked his head and charged at Luke and hit him. Stabbed him. In the forehead.

“ARGH!” Luke screamed as he doubled over. Mrs. NOYB swiftly grabbed an arrow and hit the red-eyed man as she screamed “Luke! NO!”

Luke’s vision got blurry as pain shot all throughout his body. Luke tasted the blood as it dripped from his forehead down to his mouth. Luke tried to move his head. He was able to move it slightly without pain shooting all through his body. He just managed to get a glimpse of the red-eyed man, and he saw something drip out of his chest. Something blue.

“Blue blood…” Luke moaned as he dropped his head to the floor, unconscious.

“Oh...boy...you….argh…got me.” The red-eyed man moaned. He raised his hand up, making Luke hover up. Then, he balled his hands into a fist and Luke’s chest filled with air as he gasped, and the red-eyed man set him down.

“However, I think you know fairly well I don’t just leave

things to chance. I never said when and where I’ll put you into the trial. Let’s say...your on the ground tied up five minutes before the daytime of your tenth birthday? How about we follow the future?” The red-eyed man said.

“No...NO!” Luke screamed as the red-eyed man launched him into a portal behind him.

The possible future became his future. This couldn’t be good.

Luke and Mrs. NOYB woke up in the same situation from the future vision. Luke remembered what he had to do.

“Mrs. NOYB-”

“Okay that’s getting really annoying. Call me Sara. My name’s Sara.”

“Huh. Okay, Sara. Remember the feature-less no-eyed guy?”

“The red-eyed guy’s assistant?”

“Yeah. He showed me a possible future.” Luke left out the part that he said that he died in this future, now present. “It was this situation. I saved the future Luke, so we have to do what happened.” Luke lied.

“Okay, what happened?”

“We screamed until the past Luke came. So let’s do so.”

Sara started screaming. Then Luke started screaming. They screamed and screamed for about three minutes, then Luke heard a portal from nearby.

“Keep screaming. He’s coming soon!” Luke said, replicating what he heard in the future vision.

From the corner of his eye, Luke saw a figure. He faced the figure. It was past Luke, which in his mind he called “Pluke”. Pluke stepped out from behind a wall. Luke had to give it a shot. Maybe...just maybe...things would change, and Pluke would untie Luke before the feature-less no-eyed man got him.

“There he is.” Luke said to Sara. Luke motioned Pluke to come and untie them.

Then the light came. Then the thumps of the dinosaurs.

Come on...Pluke, please do it differently then I did! Luke thought.

Pluke sprinted towards Luke. And for once...Luke had luck. Things changed. Pluke made it to them, kneeled down and un-tied them. Then, the feature-less man grabbed him and pulled him into the white space of nothingness.

“See!?” Luke yelled to Sara as they got up and sprinted off. Luke, even in his baby form, ran very fast. He had hope. Luck had returned to Luke.

“See!? I told you Luck would return to you! Everytime I called you Luck, I was totally saying Luck would return to you!” Sara said as if reading his mind.

Despite the situation, despite everything that has happened recently...Luke let out a laugh.

Then...all the happiness and hope washed away like a child’s toy on a beach, being washed away by the water.

Two huge dinosaur legs stepped right in front of Luke. A huge slobbery mouth bent over and tried to take Luke as a tasty snack.

“Oh no, oh no! Wait! Luke! These guys are illusions! You can hurt them with your imagination! Maybe? That’s illusions too, right?” Sara screamed.

Why hadn’t Luke thought of that before!? He made a big shiny blade appear, and he swung it skyward, and it sliced through the dinosaur’s stomach. He wobbled and Luke ran out as the dinosaur fell over. Then, as it was on the ground, it disappeared into thin air.

“I hate dinosaurs!” Luke screamed. A crossbow appeared in Sara’s hand out of thin air.

“Agreed!” She screamed as she grabbed an arrow from a quiver of tons of arrows that just appeared.

She shot a dinosaur, and it doubled over. Seven more. Wait...shouldn’t it be eight? Luke looked around.

Huh. I guess somehow there’s seven! Nice! Luke thought.

Then some liquid dropped on Luke’s head. Moments later...a large mouth with sharp white blades as teeth bent over and grabbed him as a tasty snack. That’s it. Game over.

“Luck!!!” Sara screamed. “NO! Lu...LUKE!”

One thought ran through Luke’s head as the big jaws closed all around him. As he blacked out, he said only one sentence before his death.

“Goodbye...Cruel...World…”

Let’s not describe anything that happened next for Luke. It wasn’t pretty.

Sara managed to fend off all the dinosaurs, slaying each of them. She screamed. Anger clouded her thoughts as she shot each arrow.

Sara beat the trial. But Luke wasn’t there for any of it. Or...he wasn’t there to see her progress. A few seconds after Sara beat the trial, the red-eyed man appeared out of thin air and floated slowly down to Sara’s level.

“Congratulations. You have beat Trial One. Out of Six hundred.”

“WHAT THE-”

So she only progressed. But still, Luke wasn’t there for any of it. May he rest in peace, for he had none in his life.
