They think they know who I am,
and exactly what I'll be.
They see the side I only expose,
instead of seeing the "real me".

But everything I hide away,
is hidden behind a mask.
Every feeling, thought, and smile
has been buried with my past.

So I put on my fake face,
and steady my broken voice.
I transform myself into a monster
and I do it without a choice.

My smile has no feeling
and my eyes are only hollow.
My sunshine has been chased away,
and the darkness is all I follow.

But one of these days I'll break free,
and they won't now me anymore!
They'll finally see the honest smile
that they haven't seen before.

And then I will leave them all behind
as I find myself that day.
I will be myself again,
when the mask finally goes away.

The author's comments:
Finding out who you really are is a big part of growing up. This poem was written to describe how you can be a totally different person than the one you really show.

Thats one of those poems you go by thinking, " Nahh, it won't be as good. Sounds like the type of poem everybody else makes. " Then when you do read it you find out " This is one of a kind. ABsolutely amazing." This , i wish, i could've thought of. :)

 is really amazing, i know everyone is saying this but i want you to know how much support you have.  this si how i often feel and i think everyone out there feels like thehave  mask on somtimes.

I feel like I can connect with this poem. When I read this poem it brought me back to when I was in middle school and beginning of high school. But then it later changed. I no longer wear the mask anymore.

This is beautiful poem! The imagery is stunning!

 

However, this is not a real sonnet. Sonnets have 10 syllables per line and follow an ababcdcdefefgg pattern.

 

Excluding that, well done!

So i commented on "Forever Regrets" and this poem i feel also relates to that ex-best friend i had. I have been holding back from letting my feelings out about her on paper, but now i see that i dont need to write about how i feel about her, when i read your writing, and its like you are showing the world for me. haha, this is really great.
