The Death of the Flame
If somehow I have failed you,
Let it be known: how hard I tried,
I do not know what could have ailed you,
It was so sudden when you died.

We are, none of us, immortal,
Death comes for one and all,
But that so bright, so young a flame
Should be smothered with a pall!

May your grave be strewn with roses,
May the sun forever on you shine,
But your flame has been extinguished
And thus these bitter tears I cry.
