4.
Sit down and stand up
Sing, pray, rinse sins, and repeat
Church is a shower

5.
Dressed up with smiles wide
But their eyes are scaring us
A remorseless quo

6.
Sweet embarrassment
Calls me out to the back pew
But I made it, right?

The author's comments:

The second three poems of a collection of twevle haiku about sitting on the "back pew" at church. The church is supposed to be a family under God to help those in need and to be active in good works, but for some it feels like an organization guided by a hierachy of the preacher, deacons, and the most "dedicated" who sit at the front. I decided to write from the standpoint of a "back pew" fellowshiper -- someone who under any circumstance feels empty, inadequate, or even threatened by church and the supposed "hierarchy". I hope I can strike cords with these haiku to other back pew people who may feel this way, and to those who may be super active in church but perhaps not show love and encouragement to those who feel distant from the church and God.
