Son of Daedalus ionizes with melted wax
Dripping onto hardwood floor
Where a single flower sprouts
Is it cedar, redwood, oak, cherry?

Feathers fuse with carbon dioxide
Dark dust settles across the world as
Modern Icarus takes flight
Light gives way to flickering darkness

Escape the darkness of the cold cruel world
Outrun the blue and red dancing lights
The rain beats on my heart like electro drums
Vibrating underneath the hardwood floors of a 1974 resignation

Father’s cry descends into the flower’s roots
Modern Icarus pushes past cold hearted souls and
Pushes past broken rain reminiscing over golden days
Past the weeping mothers of fallen Vietnam soldiers …

Wet yellow hair flaps on the back of his head
Heavens part straits of the Icarian Sea
Odysseus parts with benevolent Penelope
Reunites with Babe Ruth on the diamond

All the while, a neglected flower sends a
Sigh, blowing down twin towers
Spilling melted wax onto the hardwood floor
As wolves howl in the dying moonlight

Falling into existence-full air
Tears salt the soil
Light gives way
all is clear.
