so it could grow in the light
all the words you spoke
all the thoughts you’ll write

the painting of color
of the sun setting in the west
the calming darkness
the feeling of rest

today was terrible?
is that what you chose?
to dwell on the thorns so much
you don’t even notice the rose?

you saw beauty
you brought color to the gray
