Sitting over a computer in tears
YouTube lectures hound my ears
Papers scattered in a mess
A test, two quizzes, more work, no less

My friends are all out having fun
My eyes are burning like the sun
I have a headache, I want to sleep
The hill I’m climbing is way too steep

I feel like I forgot it all
Ten pages in a scrawl too small
I wish to be back to my youth
Where I never had to know the truth

They say it’s all important
Right now my mind is dormant
Stressed beyond return
This is not how we should learn

Child innocence is gone
We each are just a pawn
All restricted from attack
All reminded what we lack

The author's comments:

I wrote this piece to relieve myself of some of the stress that I have had from high school lately. Some people do not understand the ridiculous amount of work that kids put into their education, so I wrote this to show the feelings that I and many of my peers have on a daily basis. I hope you can read this and relate to it, or read this to better understand what some of those around you might be going through.
