Lakes
If a lake is too clear,
you can see through the water
at everything beneath.
Fish, tangled weeds,
a plastic bottle, a handful of coins.
A child enjoys
looking into lakes like these.
He spends a day here,
telling the lake its stories.
But to older people,
these lakes often show more
than they would like to see.
Light reaching its every corner
makes them uncomfortable.
However, most lakes are murky.
A child hates lakes being murky
Older people are used to it.
They don’t care much about what
the world underwater beholds.
All they see is sunlight shimmering softly
on the lake’s surface,
And it is beautiful.
