The Book
  The books that call me
and tell the story that they live to tell
  greet me
just as my mother greets me
  with open arms
  Let the book walk you
  through its story
  Look at every chapter
  page
  paragraph
  sentence
  word
  and letter
  to understand its life --
  the soft words
that can send you to sleep
or bounce you out of bed
  at six in the morning

I wrote this piece after reading, and being inspired by, Emily Dickinson's "The Train."
