The dark is a common fear
amongst many individuals.
For some, it is because
of past experiences, or
maybe they do not enjoy
being alone.

But I, who is also
afraid of the dark,
have grown to find comfort
within the deafening silence;
Loneliness accompanied
Darkness sometimes and became a friend of mine .

When my heart explodes in a fury of emotions
in the dead of night,
no one except Darkness
dries my tears with his coursed fingers as they spill from
my eyes and kiss my pale cheeks.
“There, there, love. You’ll always have me.”

When my anger boils
in my veins in the dead of night,
no one except Darkness
calms my raging mind with
his haunting song and Loneliness echoes
his low notes with his own grizzly voice.

Darkness taunts me with his charismatic smile,
seducing me with a slender finger to stay with him.
“Stay with me, where you are safe.”
His melodious voice calls to me in the midst of my slumber,
when my mind is lost between the dimensions of dreams and realities.
He always pulls me back, reminding me of the pain I feel while awake.

No one knows my secrets
quite like he does.
I suppose, after my reflection,
the only scenario I’m
scared of is him
abandoning me as
others have before.
