I Understand
“Blood is thicker than water.”
That’s what they will tell you.
But what they don’t know is that everyone comes from blood.
What they don’t know is that it takes much more than just blood,
to be a father.
I understand.
They don’t know the changes that are to be made,
the sacrifices needed in order to be a father.
But I do,
I know, the trial and error.
I know, the worry and the pain.
I understand.
I will hold her little hand in mine,
Dust her off when she falls.
I will watch her grow.
I wouldn’t trade this for the world,
she is the joy of my life.
I understand.
They will never know that no matter what,
I will love her.
At the end of the day she is mine.
Every single moment of every single day,
I will be her father
I understand.
I will break my back
To keep food on the table
Cloths on her back
A roof over her head
I will provide.
I understand.
