The Storm
The wind whipped in the sails above our heads,
the sound of the thick fabric almost making a whistling sound.
The waves of the salty sea towering almost 50 feet above our heads,
the water jumping up and into the ship,
eager to drag us back into the dark depths below.
I remember the feeling of the sea spraying us with the icy cold water,
the water soaking me through my clothes and dripping into my eyes,
stinging them in the process.
It became harder to hang on to the ship,
the storm making the wood slippery,
I watched helplessly as my fellow crewmates, my friends,
got sucked into the storm.
The sky, was covered in thick blue-grey clouds that seemed to go on forever,
and never clear away.
We should have known, for the old saying goes,
red sky at night sailors delight red sky in the morning,
sailors take warning.
Now looking back,
their was so many regrets,
I regretted even getting on this ship and ignoring the signs that were so clear.
I regretted leaving my family alone back on the shore,
now probably waiting and thinking why I am not there with them.
And that's the last thing I thought of as I,
myself got pulled away from the ship,
and got dragged down into the sea.
