amor propio
i am in love.
the kind of love you feel
will last forever and ever
til death do you part.
she is like a rose.
breathtaking.
mesmerizing.
but you cannot miss the thorns.
don’t you dare slice them off.
the bits that hurt the most
make her who she is.
she is intelligent.
her vast knowledge never ceases to amaze me.
the sparkle in her eyes when
she speaks of things she’s passionate about
could light up the whole world.
i am in love.
and it’s the best kind of love.
the girl receiving all of this praise is myself.
i am the rose.
i am intelligent.
i am a goddess.
and i belong to me.

This piece was inspired by the years of self-deprecation I've put myself through.
The title "amor propio" means "self-love" in Spanish.
I used to struggle with accepting my cultural background due to the area which I live in and the cruelty I've seen my family face, so it seemed fitting to have the title in Spanish.
I have come to a point in my life where all I want to do is love myself and encourage others to do the same.
You only get one body, so you might as well love it.
