Virtual Realitty
Streetlights shone through the windows and burned through my unhappy mask of a face.
Never changing.
Meaningless chatter from the front seat.
I will my cold hand to move to the volume button and press until I can’t hear anything.
Just meaningless music to block out meaningless talk. In a meaningless town. In a meaningless world.
A chime sounds that vibrates through my mind. A message. Sent from someone I don’t know, who doesn’t know me, and is my best friend.
I feel the simple words burn in my mind as I ponder the meaning.
“How are you?”
I restrain the urge to type ‘Do you care,’ for I know the unpleasant and painful answer.
I focus my energy to my fingers, who write using memory: “Good! You?”
I press the button that makes the screen go dark and hope that there is more.
So I go to where there is more.
I close my eyes so I may fall asleep and dream.
Dreaming is the only place that I don’t live in a virtual reality.
