Pedaling Through Nature
Pedals.

My shoes cling to the Trek platform.
My hands clench the metal handle bars.

  Branches wither in the wind.
  I watch them sway,
  side to side.

Dust lifts and flies over my feet,
  floating in the air
  surrounding my face.
I shield my head with my helmet.

The sun glazes bright in the blue sky
  peaking through each tree,
  settling under clouds.
  I squint my eyes,
but can’t see through the sun’s rays.

  Leaves fall behind me as
  trees tower over me with
  branches reaching towards
  clouds like hands.

  My body fills with weakness,
  becoming more tired
  with every stroke.

  A sweet scent blossoms through
  the soil and grass.

  Petals.
