shatter all confidence with
an iron fist full of cruelty
break her down with words
you coat them in the knife of your abandonment
you coat them in the loneliness you have worn yourself
break the beautiful
all she has
her books
her words
small on the page
scribbles in the margin
hear the cry
jumping out of her mouth
build yourself strong and mighty
and pretend you’ve never been broken
