Adoption
“I love you” is the look a young mother of only 18 gives to her newborn baby girl one last time before she hands her over to the smiling couple opposite of her.
There is a bit of resistance in her grip on the light pink blanket her “Jasmine” is swaddled in because she knows as soon as the little bundle of joy is taken from her hands and she is left with nothing but air, her “Jasmine” will have a new name; no longer hers, but theirs.
The girl wants to say no; is dying to bring the little one back to the warmth of her chest, walk away from the couple and never come back, but she can’t.
It’s too late.
She lifts her eyes to see the other mother giving her own “I love you,” her hands outstretched, eager to finally have the daughter she always wanted but could never have, until now and in her heart, the young mother knows that this is the right thing to do.

I was adopted when I was only 9 days old, so it's very personal to me. I wanted to imagine what it was like for the brith mother to allow this new family to take in her own child.
