The Things I Never Said
Grandpa
If I could, I’d show you just how beautiful she has become
If I could, I’d tell you all about the adventures we’ve had
If I could, I’d thank you for giving her your humor
If I could, I’d show you how happy she is
If I could, I’d tell you how intelligent she is
If I could, I’d thank you for letting him love her
If I could, I’d show you just what beauty they’ve created together
If I could, I’d tell you about the traditions we’ve started in your name
If I could, I’d say thank you for raising my mother
Daddy
I was your princess, before I ever became his Queen.
You were my Knight, before he ever became my King.
I would kiss your cheek, before I ever brushed against his lips
You would kiss me goodnight before, he ever kissed me goodbye
I held your hand while crossing the street, before he ever kissed the ground before my feet
You called me your little girl before I became his babygirl
But don’t you worry, he will never replace you
I’ll always be your princess.
I’ll always kiss your cheek.
I’ll always hold your hand, even when I’m seventeen.
I may be older now, but I’m always your little girl.
I loved you first, Daddy.
You are my entire world.
Mom
Someday I hope to be as beautiful as you
Someday I hope to smile as brightly as you
Someday I hope to be half the mother as you
Because if I was just a little bit like you,
I’d know my children would love me, like I love you
Brother
Fours years when we’re little never seemed too long.
But you ended up in College,
And then that gap got larger the longer you were gone.
I began to miss my big brother, my best friend from birth.
I didn’t know anyone here,
It was like I was the smallest person on Earth.
I got sad.
I got lonely.
I did things I never would have.
But then you got sad too.
You made mistakes.
You were so used to us being a crew.
Once we were separated, we made mistakes.
We lost control.
We couldn’t find the breaks.
You crashed and burned,
And I taught myself how to be solo.
I’m sorry you never learned.
I still love you, even though I never say it
I still miss you, even though I won’t admit it
You are my brother, I care for you and I won’t ever quit it.
You
You are courageous.
You are strong.
You don’t have to listen to them,
They were wrong.
You are intelligent.
You are clever.
You don’t have to listen to them,
They weren’t better.
You are lucky.
You are blessed.
You don’t have to listen to them,
They were pissed.
Grandma
Slow Down.
Don’t exert yourself, your age won’t allow it.
Breathe.
Fill your lungs slowly.
Listen to your heart.
It will only beat so fast for so long.
Pay attention to your body.
It’ll tell you when it’s had enough.
Watch your tongue.
Speak of only positives, avoid the sting of a bee.
But most importantly,
Remember.
I love every second more I get with you.
