Ode to Pillows

Trembling eyelashes brush against the grey fabric
As heavy eyes slowly open.
It listens to our groans
And receives the hot, deep breath that we take
As we think about the long day ahead.

Over time,
The pillow is washed by our tears.
But dries just as quickly as our cheeks.
And we leave.

We always return
Because we know that we will find comfort
That we have received our whole lives
From the grey fabric.

The backs of our heads push
As we clear our minds
And it pushes back

As we drift away.
It is the last thing we see.
