One year ago

I was a sad

Depressed

Lonely

Teenager, 

Just trying

To make sense 

Of everything

Going wrong

In my life.

My mom and dad

Had just divorced.

My best friend

Was talking about

Us going to college

When I didn't think

I'd make it through

The month.

I was pining

After a boy

Who pushed me

Out of the star role

Of the musical

That was my life.

It was almost summer

And I was so

Ready

To put life on hold

For a few months

Or maybe forever.

I wasn't sure

At the time.

The future

Was coming towards me

On tottering legs

With scary teeth 

And sharp claws.

And I was

Terrified.

Fast forward

One year.

My mom is married

To a wonderful man

Who makes her

Breakfast in bed

And kisses her

When she wakes up

With bad breath

And bed head.

My best friend 

And I

Are going to the college

Of our dreams,

Living together,

(Gods help us),

And she'll clean

And I'll cook

And we'll kill each other.

I have a sweet

Caring

Considerate

Boyfriend,

Who wants me

For me.

Not for what 

He can do.

A lot

Has changed

In a little

Time.

Life is different

Now.

I'm not as

Scared,

Anymore.

For the first time,

The first time,

Life is good.
