Homo sapiens, meaning “wise man”
from Canada to Japan
we protect, create, innovate all but one thing
our home, our sanctuary, which we don’t really bring
anything to the table for besides destruction
because apparently the construction
of condominiums to cram thousands of people in
is far more important than feeding the poor and the thin
is far more important than dealing with carbon emission
so just maybe we can leave this world in a little better condition
the mass production of animals for their meat
is far more important than helping those living out on the street
is far more important than preserving the trees
for without trees, how can we print money with ease?
Homo sapiens cause 200 species to go extinct every day
1000 times more than the natural rate, which we think is OK
everyone deserves the right to a proper education
for the betterment of our nations
so perhaps one day we can learn enough to combat pollution
to combat all the damage we’ve done and to just find a solution
to our stupidity - we need to open our eyes
and realize that we really aren’t so wise
