A Dozen Lilacs
Twelve years ago today,
A star came into Creation
A glowing light of
promise and
The Future;
We all knew you were going to make it.
I knew,
from the moment I kissed you
my hands in your hair
the warm smell of your cheek,
Love was going to find me
Just like you did.
Today is the start of a new beginning
A separate sadness
free from our guilt
And I’m sorry you won’t get to see it.
A thousand thank-yous
and too many kisses
A lovely heart buried,
lips touching the soil
I love you.
A sunny morning
spills a love too deep for words,
Soft violet understands
my longing.
