It’s the barrier between
known and unknown.
Almost as thin as
the paper it rests between,
soon to be knocked down
and re-constructed at the foot
of a new journey.
Whether it's peeking out from
in between the pages, or just
a folded corner, when you
put it back in, the curiosity
can turn you into a detective,
working with the clues
you have, desperate for more.
Solving the story is critical,
and your bookmark is
the only thing stopping
you from unveiling the truth.

When writing this poem, I realized how much people neglect bookmarks, only interested in the book it sits in. I hope this poem helps people see that bookmarks aren't just to hold your place in a book.
