Enter: High school football jock
He’s strong,
but only on the outside.
He’s popular,
but has not yet tasted true friendship.
He’s a chick magnet,
but is still a virgin.
“That’s so gay,” his so-called friends say
when he tells them.
Being surrounded by men for such a long time,
you could’ve assumed that he was.
But, could you have assumed that he
picked up a razor and let air touch his body where air should never touch.
No one suspects a thing.
No one asks if he’s okay.
As like he shines underneath the Friday night lights,
So do the tears he shed nearly every night.
He can never reveal himself to anyone,
for high school is a vicious playground in his world.
And his home was a place of fatherly abuse instead of love.
A place where his trophy wife soccer mom stood and watched,
while father yelled, “You are not quitting, football is my life,” disregarding his son’s own life.
So he hides behind a college sports scholarship,
saying I’ll be out of here in a year, I’ll be out of here in a year.
But, it was sooner.
Almost the whole school attended the funeral.
His salty tear and blood stained note was found by his father,
as was his corpse severed by a short blade of silver.
His son’s bedroom carpet now forever stained
by unlawful blood.
His body almost couldn’t be displayed,
for his self harm nearly destroyed his thighs and wrists.
Luckily, they were covered by the suit he will be buried in.
“I’ll be out of there in a year,” he had said.
“I had no idea,” one of his “friends” said at the wake.
“He seemed so happy,” another said
Well, at least he was out of there within the year.

I was inspired by this to write this poem by the personal problems that all of my schools' fellow cheerleaders tell me. No one really ever asked if any of the "popular/cool" kids are okay. I hope that people can gain a new perspective from this.
