Amidst the Sea of Red
We fight, fight, and fight.
Some lay still as stones,
Some lay writhing in agony.
The rest of us, who are able, keep fighting.
We wish the see the end of this war,
We strive for victory, not only for ourselves,
Or for our country,
But for those who weren’t so lucky to remain in the fight.
The enemy is ruthless and unyielding.
Waves upon waves of heavily armored bodies,
Yelling and raining gunfire upon us.
We push back.
Medics racing to save valuable lives,
Lives that belong to other lives,
Lives that we love and are fighting to defend.
Our bloodied and beaten bodies are much like our minds.
Our minds have become weak and war-stricken.
Our minds and bodies fight to be free.
Free of this red and dangerous land,
Free from this terror and hatred.
Fighting for peace,
Is there ever truly peace?
The end of this bloodshed is nigh.
We fight with renewed vigor,
But some of us still end up walking into that dark abyss,
Just as I find myself,
Walking into the darkness.
Finally I have seen the end of war.
Only the dead see the end of war.
Finally, I have found true peace.

I don't have a lot of experience with things like this except that I have a few relatives that have served in the military. I tried my best to get to the view point of a soldier in battle. I don't know how well I did, but I hope I got close enough for people to enjoy. Thank you.
