Gift of My Dog
Oh to my dog,
who loves to play in the yard all day getting dirt and grass all over his fur
who sits when I say “sit”
who I love to give treats too for the good things he does
Oh to my dog,
who angers me
who jumps on my old dog Cory knocking the poor old mad to the ground
who jumps on me when I tell him to stop it
Oh to my dog,
whose floppy ears and wagging tail make me smile
whose wrinkled face makes me want to hold him in my arms
whose sad puppy face I can't turn away from
Oh to my dog,
that I hunt with
who I teach and get taught new things out in the field
who worries me now that I lost him once before on a hunt
Oh to my dog,
who comes when I call
who I know always comes back to me
who I still have to look over like a parent with a toddler
Oh to my dog,
who I love
who I believe in
who I have fun with
who I could never replace
I'm so fortunate to have my dog in my life
