Leaves
there is something beautiful
in a tree lit aflame
by it's own leaves
blazing on a final show
of their seemingly nonexistent hearts
exposing the world to their inner beauty
then the leaves start to fall
one by one
slowly dying
in the most wondrous way possible
fighting to stay alive
as death takes its course
from top to bottom
taking off the green guise
showing their true orange-yellow selves
then falling and dying
just to do it all again
at a later date
some of us are the leaves
finding out who we are on the inside
and showing the world
and getting cast down
away from everyone else
and becoming someone we are not
again and again

This piece was inspired by a tree in my neighbor's yard that I can see from the window in my room. The town was covered in snow but this tree was still bearing vibrant fall leaves. I cannot recall why I drew a comparison between people and this tree, but I feel this is a message that will resonate with people.
