The Distance Between
the gap between you and I
seems unable to breach
like the ocean and sky
simply out of reach
with you on my mind
the daily routine done on my own
and when I let myself unwind
I feel so empty, so alone
this space is such a breadth
if I ran to its horizon
it would be worth being out of breath
if it’s you that my eyes land on
reality tells me it’s really just a few miles
but my heart knows no dimensions
only that I haven’t seen you in a while
I miss you, have I mentioned?
I dream about closeness
comfort, safety, heat
instead of this coldness
I wish would never repeat
every night I spend yearning
for my heart to be complete
as I lay tossing and turning
unable to fall asleep
tell me this won’t last
this separation from my soulmate
I love this spell you cast
but the distance, I do so hate
