Race isn't an issue
Sorry not Sorry
We are sorry not sorry
For the melanin in our skin
Or the kinkiness of our hair.
Since when did a black girl
Talking right equate to her talking white?
Leaning together
Just keep leaning together
Just stay together in that cafeteria line
Or at that library table
Because one day it will get better.
We might be quiet but not meaningless.
Never meaningless, but always stuffed.
Stuffed with the waves of
Disappointment and lost dreams.
black. are you sure?
“ghetto,”
that’s what she is called.
The clock ticks and
the word is plastered
on the walls of her mind.
Heaven forbid if she excels
In something other than being “exotic”
or being different from
those other black girls.
You know those black girls.
The black girls with too much a**
and too much attitude
so, they can’t be intelligent
in something other than twerking
and rolling a blunt.
Society’s indiscretion, I guess.
It’s heart is full of silence.
Never wanting to spill the wrong word
Matter of fact,
Any words relating to the subject.
What subject?
The low lying projectile that ruins lives everyday.
The horror, the horror
It has to end.
It was supposed to end on December 6th, 1865
But somehow, it’s making a comeback.
Why don’t the good things make comebacks?
Like 1950’s style dresses or
Something more important like, manners.
It will end.
Will it end?
Not if we continue
The autonomous enmity
within our communities.
150 years ago, white people told us not to read
And now we’re doing it to each other.
The horror, the horror.
Just end it now, can we end it now?
We can end it now.
Excel.
Read.
Learn.
Transcend the abyss of society’s underlying aggression.
Wash the blood off your hands and
Run to find it.
Knowledge.
Lean together.
Beat it together.
Key word being together.
