Pulled by a rope
Your mind a twisted knot
Strung up by promises
You let me down
The rope of lies we wove
Took my breath
You watched
As it all ended
With a snap

I wrote this piece with a deep sense of betrayal, such as that from a loved one or a trusted friend. I wanted to portray not only the feelings of anger and sorrow one might experience, but also the way that one's views of the betrayer, the world, and their own life may change. I would recommend reading this poem once as is, then read it again with the image of a noose in mind. I urge you to look at this from different perspectives and to apply your own thoughts and experiences to your interpretation of it. Some things to spark your imagination might be: who is the speaker referring to, what is the snap at the end, what could the rope symbolize, who are the people involved.
