We forgot what pain felt like.
Instead we pray, hoping for a beautiful life.
Ignoring the truth.
That this is real.
That life was lost.
Until we lie in bed and let it in.
And our innocence is taken as we try to make sense of this life.
Not the beautiful life we hope for. The life we live.
Where death and tragedy hit every day.
Fearful that it will hit us, and heartbroken as it hits around us.
We walk with pride while internally we crumble.
One day we won’t hope for a beautiful life.
We will hope for a beautiful tomorrow.
Just one day of peace and love and joy for us all.
When we can all sleep without a heavy heart.
When we can let it in.
And, eventually, we can let it go.
We won’t forget, but we will move on.
We won’t find the beauty in life.
But one day, amidst the pain and suffering, it will find us.
