The Devil
Summer of 2010
Hot days and cool nights
Full of optimism
The carefree days.
Crumbled by the sentence
I have cancer.
Of course 10 year old me thought
You’d get better.
I’d be okay.
Those comforting words filled in the cracks of reality.
I sat beside you,
The man who helped raise me
Who made my smile the bright smile it is
Made the laughter come and tears go
My best friend.
I sat beside you
But when I looked over
I saw a man.
That was pale and fragile
No smile, no light
A glossed over look in your dark eyes.
You were gone.
